Controlled Demolition Of 48m Piled Retaining Wall for Colmar Construction

SCDS recently carried out the removal of a 48m concrete piled retaining wall at Sandbanks Road for Colmar Construction using the track and wire saws.

It consisted of nearly a hundred circular concrete  piles which were 450mm and 600mm wide, with lengths of 6 meters above ground to remove safely.  This was carried out in 3 stages consisting of removal of the capping beam in 1.5m lengths, and then cutting the piles into 3m lengths so that they did not exceed the safe working load of the excavator.

All the lifting operations were carried out using our trained slinger signallers, which came as a bit of challenge at times due to the minimal clearance of the new build adjacent to the wall.

Pre-planning was essential on this contract due to the continuing site activities being carried out next door and within the perimeter of this work area.  Safe zones had to be set up due to us using our Track and wire saw operations. This was to ensure zero harm to our operatives and third parties whilst the cutting and lifting process was carried out.

A slurry catchment curtain was constructed between the wall and the new block of flats next door. This was made from debris netting and Heris panels, and then attached to a movable scaffold frame, which gave it strength whilst acting as protection from the wire and track saw activities.

SCDS managed to complete this job on schedule without any disruption, and without any safety issues which is how we like every job to go.
