Drilling and resin fixing of Dowel bars into an existing concrete slab at Hurn Airport, Bournemouth for one of our clients Bowmer and Kirkland
This contract involved percussive drilling 460 holes 22mm x 300mm deep in to the original slab after we cut into pieces using our 65hp self-propelled diesel floor saw. The new concrete carpark was damaged this winter gone by adverse weather conditions after the pour had been completed. It needed removing in manageable pieces and weights to allow for the reinstallation of the new slab. As you can see from the back drop, its part of a new build of aircraft hangers in the surrounding area of Bournemouth International Airport for a company called Aim Aviation. Our in-house construction company managed the ground works for Bowmer and Kirkland who we’ve had as one of our many satisfied customers over the 30 years it’s been running.
The second part of the task in hand was to install 20mm dowel bars into the previously drilled holes. They were then fixed into the slab using a gun grade epoxy resin which is one of the many services we can provide at Southern Counties “If you have a problem, we have the solution!”
As you can see from the pictures, we used the EZ drill which is a percussive compressor driven machine that drills at a phenomenal rate, which is a fantastic asset to us and our customers because time is money and that saves you both. Once again the compressor was supplied to us by our highly efficient and competitive in-house plant departed, removing even more hassle away from our clients as we can deal with many aspects of task organisation.
I am pleased to say that we finished this job well before schedule, absolutely no effect on the day to day running of the site, no health and safety issues and gave our client the ability to get ahead of their programme due to having the right men and equipment for the job, all delivered with minimum hassle by our in-house plant department.
